Understanding the Healthcare Billing Workflow
Medical billing can seem complicated. Here is how charges flow from your visit to final statement:
If your insurance plan requires a fixed copay for primary care or specialist visits, it is collected at check-in.
Our certified billing team submits coded clinical claims to your insurance carrier within 48 to 72 hours of your visit.
Your insurance company sends you an EOB statement. Note: This is not a bill. It shows in-network discount adjustments and what portion your insurer paid.
If your insurance plan assigns deductible or coinsurance responsibility, Cedar Grove issues a clear itemized statement reflecting the exact insurer-adjusted balance.
Good Faith Estimate & The No Surprises Act
Under federal law, healthcare providers must give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for non-emergency medical items and services.
- You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your scheduled non-emergency appointment.
- If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill under federal guidelines.
